Engage: Building Positive Relationships With Player's Parents

A course for coaches to help support and build positive relationships with their athletes' parents. Developed by ‘Working with Parents in Sport’; a UK organisation that supports organisations, parents and coaches in working together to provide children with the best possible sporting experiences.

Delivered by international expert Gordon MacLelland, founder of the organisation Working With Parents in Sport.

 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • How to engage, support and build positive relationships with your players’ parents
  • What is meant by ‘Parental Engagement’
  • Today's sporting parent
  • Understand your role in engaging and building positive relationships with your players’ parents
  • How to set the tone with your approach and behaviours
  • How to set up an effective communication strategy
  • How to run effective and engaging parents’ meetings
  • How to get your player’s parents more practically involved

Course content:

  • Parental engagement and the challenges coaches face
  • Understanding today's sporting parent,
  • Importance of organizational alignment
  • What you can do and should expect from your group of parents
  • Being a role model and building confidence with your parent group, having an effective communication policy
  • Setting the right environment for parental engagement to thrive

We estimate that the course will take 3 hours to complete:

  • 60+ minutes of video lessons
  • At least 30 minutes of additional interactive learning including progress quizzes and text
  • At least 90 minutes completing planning activities, reflections and observations in the course workbook. 

UK coaches should note that the learner is responsible for submitting course evidence to the LTA for Independent Learning.
